Welcome to the Parent’s Area. We aim to make this area as useful as possible for you as a parent so we will be adding content here regularly. Here you will find Term Dates, Calendar of Events, Newsletters, PTFA events and our admissions policy. We welcome your feedback, so if you have a suggestion or would like further information on a particular area then do please contact us.

At Ditton Infant School we admit 60 children each year into our two Reception classes.

Attendance

Absence through illness

Schools must now keep a record of the reason for every absence, so we ask that you make a telephone call to us on the first day your child is absent and then on the child’s return this must be followed up by a letter. If we have not heard the reason for an absence by 9.30am on the first day of absence; we will telephone you to find out the reason for their absence. If we have no reason for an absence it will be classed as ‘unauthorised’ and appear on the child’s report.

Other Absence

The Department for Education has published amendments to The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006. The school has a legal duty to enforce them. The amendments make clear that Headteachers may not grant ANY leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Headteachers will no longer be able to permit family holidays or extended leave. Any leave of absence taken during term time will be unauthorised and subject to a Fixed Penalty Notice (fine) issued by the Local Authority. The changes take effect from 1st September 2013 and apply to all schools in England.

In order for us to keep you updated via our Parentmail system we need to store your most up-to-date mobile phone number and email address. If either of these change, please do let the School Office know immediately.

In our school each class has a Parent Representative who meets with the Headteacher on a regular basis so that we can keep up-to-date with parents’ views and ideas.

Suggestions Box

In the main entrance there is a ‘Suggestions Box’ to enable parents and carers to post ideas on how to improve the school.
